Why a Liberal Arts Education Prepares You to become a Leader: Three Chapters of Leadership-Survival, Success and Significance
With more than 35 years of experience in health care leadership, Heidi L. Gartland will share how her liberal arts education from The College of Wooster prepared her to become a health care executive, community leader, and health policy expert.
From being an individual contributor to becoming the Chief Government and Community Relations Officer at University Hospitals, a Cleveland Ohio based health system with more than 21 hospitals, Heidi has grown into a leader of people and strategic operations in a $5B health care organization with 33,000 employees. At UH, Heidi leads strategy for community relations, community benefit, community health strategic investments, corporate reinvestment, strategic economic-development projects, and government and regulatory affairs.
Heidi will also discuss how her leadership journey unfolded outside of her place of employment, including service on many local, state, and national boards. She will share what she learned while serving on these boards and how she became the Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, a position appointed by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, DC. Heidi currently resides in Hudson, Ohio with her husband, Dan Gartland, who is also a 1985 graduate of the College. They have two adult daughters and a son-in-law.
